I thought it would be useful to share my expierence in doing a property up, and provide a short guide on what to look for and what to avoid.
Last year back in March I had a phone call from a friend who lives in the Isle of Man who has a house in Marple, Cheshire England. He and his brother jointly owned the property when their parents passed away. How ever his younger brother had lived alone in the house for 12 years since their parents died. As he had no time or the money to maintain the property it stood in the 1970's and was in much need of care.
So on a Friday afternoon I had a call to say that the younger brother was looking to clear the house out and put it on the market, could I arrange a SKIP for all the rubbish and junk that had mounted up over the years? Friday pm and he needs a SKIP for Saturday morning I like a challenge most people book a few days in advance for the weekend but with a quick call to Topskips a skip was arranged for next morning they do National Skip Hire along with local stuff.
So a skip was arranged and next morning I dropped the wife at work and thought I'll have a little drive over to see the progress.
6 cups of tea and one small box in the big skip!!!
You could see that the house in it's prime would have been a wonderful home, however with the thread bare carpets, cracks in the wall, damp around the fireplace, wall paper hangin off the wall, a window that had been superglued up, Fogged double glazing and a kitchen that had fire damaged units thanks to a family friend who fell asleep whilst making pasta!
The place was in much need of a makeover
